I grew up with a single mum when money was pretty tight. Watching mum and her friends struggle—poor and a bit directionless through some tough times—made me realise early on that I wanted to do better and help other people have better options too.

That took me down a winding and interesting path. I started out studying commerce and accounting at university because numbers always came easily to me. But, after three years in the real world of debits and credits, I worked out accounting wasn't for me.

So I went travelling for a few years, and when I got back to Australia, financial planning was developing. It seemed like the perfect fit—a mix of people, strategy, problem-solving, and legislation all coming together.

What I love about this work is the interaction and seeing great outcomes for people. Unlike accounting, which felt like a production process, financial planning gives me that dynamic engagement with people that ticks all the boxes.

One client moment that drives home why I do this work involved a single lady I'd been working with for years to build her retirement assets. She'd always been nervous about investment markets and volatility, but she trusted my advice. Recently, she needed to reduce her work hours to help care for her elderly mum. I was able to give her the confidence first to cut back her hours, then retire completely.

She told me she couldn't have worked through that transition alone and was incredibly grateful. Seeing her enter this new phase of life feeling confident and excited about what's ahead—that was humbling.

Being trusted to guide someone through such a significant life change is exactly why I love what I do.

Outside office hours, I'm a tinkerer: renovating my house, spending time in the garden, flower farming, and restoring old Holdens. I also love swimming and fishing. I'm an eternal optimist when it comes to the Parramatta Eels, still holding out hope for that next premiership.
